What to Look for in a Desirable Female

Picture
"Females: Should appear feminine, coarseness of head, neck and shoulders is objectionable. Females should display good width of pelvis to facilitate ease in calving. This pelvis width development should be obvious when viewed from the rear. The udder should display only four developed teats of even size and symmetrical placement. In heifers, teats should be small and not overly fat. Mature cows should exhibit sufficient udder development to facilitate milk production, but the udder should not be pendulous or loosely attached to the body. Heifers should attain two-thirds of mature size before breeding. Example: If an animal’s expected mature weight is 1000 lbs., then she should be bred at 650 lbs. or over."

This in a very feminine cow who is fiercely protective of her babies.  She is extremely cooperative and gentle with people, but will attack and trample a dog.  She is precisely why we do not need a donkey!

This is a very big and powerful cow who carries both the RED and DUN gene!  She has a correct frame and will make powerful calves fitting for breeding and show with Exeter.  Delicious's sire is a well known and popular bull in New York.  We are very grateful to Joshua of Glimer, TX for letting us add her to our herd!

In memory:

15/16th Beefmaster cow whose parents were both successful in Brazos County shows.  She has a big bone structure, and is always pregnant, whether we own a bull or not.  She was a bottle baby and is very special.  She also lets our kids ride her!
